friday night rambling

My mom got me the mega pack of beef jerky for Easter.

And nail polish.
My sisters will probably take these and never return them. (jk sisters....but seriously.)

On a different note, I know I talk about music quite a bit but, no joke, everyday I'm amazed by the effects it has on me and the way I feel.

A while back I had a discussion with a good friend of mine about sad music. We decided sometimes it feels good to listen to sad music and to wallow in our own sad thoughts, at least it's feeling something.
I compare it to crying.
You know how after a good cry, you almost always feel better? It's like that. It's just taking a moment to feel sorry for yourself.
And this is why I like sad music.

Have you ever put your ipod on shuffle and every song that came on went perfect with the way you were feeling? It's happening right now. Magic shuffles.

let them eat cake

I'm kinda sorta infatuated with the story of Marie Antoinette.
So, Marie Antoinette + Kirsten Dunst + Sofia Coppola = one of my favorite movies eVeR.
Seriously guys, this movie is just....so good. And so pretty.
Not to mention the soundtrack! i.e. Adam and the Ants., The Cure, Gang of Four etc.

My mom bought the dvd awhile back so I stole it and now keep it as my own. She won't notice.

Oh and also, I'm currently reading The Hidden Diary of Marie Antoinette: A novel by Carolly Erickson.
I told you, infatuation. That and historical fiction is the bees knees.
In my opinion.

Cramryn = Camryn

My niece Cam is a doll.
Even when she gets her dirty hands all over my laptop,
and runs off with my phone.

Jordan Catalano

"See, I have this philosophy.
If I go somewhere and someone I know is there then cool,
theirs somethin'.... natural about it.
But once you start makin' plans then you have like, like obligations
and that basically blows.
So my feeling is, whatever happens, happens."

About a month ago I finished watching My So-Called Life.
I loved it.
But mostly I just loved Jordan Catalano (Jared Leto).

I hate having obligations. I feel pressure to attend and then I just wanna flake.
Basically what he said.

the MESA we know and love

I heart Mesa.
Not only the pretty downtown or orange grove richy areas,
but also the ghetto parts.
In fact, no matter how much I complain, deep down I love those parts the most.

Last night me, bethany, and ashlee got a pizza from Little Ceasers and then sat down on the Westwood track and ate it. And it was delicious.
Afterwards we drove around searching for our favorite ghetto hot spots that help make Mesa Mesa.

We eat pizza at the WW track.

Apparently the 99 Cent Only store, which is right by the BBC Fashion Mart, turns into some kind of night club after hours. I'm not even kidding. At least we think that's what was happening. Who even knows.

We're holding up one finger not because the sign says Cash 1, but because we think their should only be one Cash 1 (or Speedy Cash, or Check into Cash, or Checks Cashed etc...) in a five mile radius, not forty.

You can change your name and have as many grand openings as you want, but to us, you're still Super Burrito. We're onto you.

Uh Wenchells, Winchells, Vinchells, Venchells, Grandmas Kitchen?
(If you get this joke, I love you.)

Broadway and Horne.
Oh yes. The shadiest intersection of Mesa.
You know what I'm talking about.

The poor fellow Ashlee threw Circle K ice at. Hey, we have to harass someone. It's what we do. #entertainment

And that was the end of our night.

Tonight we're making a time capsule and burying it in my backyard!

all for you julian

All great things must come to an end.
The last day was craaazy. We stood waiting at the main stage for 10 straight hours in order to be in front for The Strokes.
Violent would be the one-word description for it.
 People. Get. Crazy.
The whole time we were pushed against the railing and could hardly breathe, four days later and I'm still discovering new bruises on my body.
Oh and to top it all off, I lost my shoes!

Notable events:
Played a dirty mind card game with our new friends Andy, Brandon, Cinzia, and Kyra.
Acquired a nice pair of cankles.
Missed Best Coast and Fun.
And instead had to endure Jacks Mannequin, Wiz Khalifa, Nas and Damian Marley, Death From Above 1979 (HATED them), and Duran Duran (also terrible).
Got crushed and almost decapitated a thousand times over by crowd surfers during DFA 1979 (again, hate them.)
Wanted to boo Duran Duran off the stage, their set was never ending!
Fell in love all over again with The Strokes.
Fell on the ground when getting pulled out by a security guard. I lead a rough life.
Laid on the grass after narrowly escaping the flesh eating mob of Kanye fans.
Enjoyed Kanye in the comfort of our tent.

This guy was trippin. He looked totally frazzled and kept taking pictures of us with his array of giant cameras.

Clint Eastwood.

This kid was the bane of my existence. I don't even like having his stupid face on my blog. When I was getting crushed by a crowd surfer he took it as an opportunity to shove me out of the way and take my spot.  I hate him.
Oh and he kept sticking his arms past us and putting his hands on the rail, so I pried them off haha!

So because it was boiling hot out, the big security guys would go around and pour water in our mouths. A newspaper photographer took this picture and then came over and asked if he could put it on some website.
 here

The Hoff. (Emma stroked his back)

00:59 he points at me. Ha it really does look like it though doesn't it!

I won't say it was worth it, but I do think it taught me a valuable lesson never to attempt anything like this again. The show was amazing, but I think we would have enjoyed it a lot more from the back.
I'll probably never be that close to The Strokes again, so it was worth it.
Only for The Strokes.
(and maybe for The Shins....and KoL)
Other than that though, you'll find me in the back.

the felice brothers

Ahhhh! One of my favorite sets of the weekend.
I'm still kicking myself for leaving early to catch the last of Animal Collective (which was not nearly as cool. There, I said it.).
I only vaguely knew about them before the weekend, somehow they'd ended up on my itunes. I forget about half the music I download.
It was like a party onstage with the brothers, especially the lead singer being belligerently drunk. They rocked though, very impressive. I left feeling very happy, and in my opinion, that's a sign of a good show.

I love my folk music.

where thrills are cheap and love is divine

Day 2

Brandon Flowers
Cold Cave
The Drums

Every day was hot, but Friday seemed unbearably so. The first set we wanted to see wasn't until four in the afternoon, so we basically wandered around wanting to kill ourselves the entire day. It was hell!!

The Morning Benders and The Drums conflicted just like I knew they would, so I only got to catch half of each. Afterwards we sat in Emma's car with the air on ha! We were the biggest wimps. Bet hey, unlike every other person there, we were fully sober and really feelin' the heat.

Brandon Flowers was a dream. At the end of his set the freakin' Killers came out to join him and they played Read My Mind  and Mr. Brightside. Loved it.

Then it was the Black Keys and then Kings of Leon who are always amazing. My love for them runs deep, no matter how Creedish or Nickelbacky they get (insults of the worst kind).

getting there

I took so many dang pictures, this is the first post of many.

And we're off!

Photobucket

We:
bought 5 dollar sunglasses at wal-mart.
Drove to Indio CA.
Set up a tent.
Chillaxed with the neighbors.
Said no to drugs. Straight edge.
Played cards and ate pretzels on the top of Emmas truck while spotlighting people with a flashlight.
Sang a girls camp song to a very drunk man.
And heard people doing you know what in the tent right next to us.
the end.
